Talkshop Description:

Living organisms function through minuscule structures called proteins. Proteins coming in a wide range of shapes and sizes. Each peculiar shape or form translates into a specific function in a cell – it could be a pigment, a material, an enzyme, an antibody or a chemical signal. Proteins, therefore, make the hardware of life. Proteins themselves are encoded by long strings of a chemical called DNA that are known as genes. By using technologies that can read, write and edit DNA, we are now living in an age where we can redesign natural proteins and also undertake de novo design of novel proteins from scratch, that never existed in nature. This hands-on TalkShop takes introduces non-scientists to the world of protein structure (and its beauty) and its de novo design and engineering.
