Bushra Mahnoor is a WASH and Gender Rights activist. She initiated and is running the campaign Marwari justice, advocating for period rights in times of emergencies. Her on ground efforts to work promote period justice for flood affectees during the 2022 floods have been widely appreciated by the community she serves. Her work has been features in TIME, Al Jazeera, BBC, VoA and many other notable platforms highlighting her passionate to fight period poverty. She is currently working as the editor of a feminist magazine.
Talkshop Description:
My proposed talk aims to explore the intersection of menstrual equity and sustainability in humanitarian settings. Drawing from my experience witnessing the challenges faced by menstruators during natural disasters and conflict situations, especially during the 2022 floods in Pakistan, I will share how my grassroots movement, Mahwari Justice, is breaking the period taboo and providing safe period supplies to marginalized communities. By going back to zero and rethinking our approach to menstrual health, we can create more sustainable and equitable solutions for menstruators in humanitarian settings. This talk will provide attendees with innovative and sustainable solutions developed by our student-led movement, and highlight the importance of menstrual equity in promoting sustainability and resilience in our communities.
